It was my first food tour, but not my last! All the others in the group, including my daughter, who had been on many food tours gave it an A+ and I certainly agreed. Our guide, Anthony was awesome; a real charmer, high energy and a neighborhood enthusiast sharing with us the rich history of San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood. The food tour was more than just “here try this dish.” Anthony schooled us on the rich history of the area, and gave us intricate details on each food dish we sampled. We had lots of laughs swapping our varying cultural experiences at mealtime. I don’t know which was more fun, eating the food and drinking the wine, or talking about it. My favorite was the common practice of a dipping sauce or using the bread to slurp up the rich sauces in most pasta dishes. Yummy! Made a fan of homemade bread out of me. Each of 5 restaurants transported us right out of San Diego to various Italian chow down fun. I won’t spoil the food surprises for you except to say the hardy serving of burrata was to die for, with an unbelievable tale about its value. Anthony will fill you in. The was the best pasta dish I’ve had thus far. We ended at the patio of a quaint bakery/restaurant offering a wonderful desert selection from extravagant pastries to simple flourless chocolate cake and cheese cake. Look forward to a great time, great food, and getting your money’s worth. Win, win. Chow —Lola P. Skokie, IL

Today my husband and I treated ourselves to a historical walking tour of Little Italy.  Our esteemed guide was Anthony Davi.  We met Anthony at Cafe Zucchero  in the morning for espresso and a fabulous Inis — a humongous Sicilian deep-fried, cream-filled donut. We proceeded to walk about and learn more and more interesting and intriguing facts about everything from the first settlers in Little Italy, Prohibition, and of course The Mob. Anthony tells everything in story form which keeps you riveted to his every word.  He really knows this town, and from all the people who called out to him in Italian, everyone in it!  Run don’t walk and sign up for this tour to get an overall cultural experience of this fantastic, vibrant area.  We finished with a trip to the Saturday Farmers Market and we are going back soon for one of Anthony’s cooking classes in an Italian home. I did a Little Italy Tour and Sicilian cooking class for my friend’s Bachelorette party and hired Anthony to show us the way.  We had a blast!  Anthony was such a great tour guide showing us the way through Little Italy and connecting us with Adriana who took us to an Italian grocery store and the farmers market where we purchased some of our ingredients for our cooking class later in the day.  Between Anthony and Adriana we felt that we got a great overall view of Little Italy, which is the cutest part of San Diego!  We then went to Adriana’s mothers home where we has our Sicilian cooking class.  Anna (Adriana’s mother) was amazing and welcomed us with such love that we immediately felt apart of the family.  We spend the afternoon cooking a five course authentic Sicilian meal all while talking, telling stories and of course drinking some wine.  It was a perfect afternoon spent with family and of course celebrating the bride to be!  After we finished our meal we ended up not wanting to leave Anna’s house! Although we did get to leave with all of the delicious recipes so can make them again.  Can not wait to go back and visit Anna, Adriana, and Anthony … they are the BEST!  #BestBreadCrumbToaster  —Lauren C. Los Angeles, CA

My work department did this tour as part of our holiday celebrations and had a great time! Our tour guide Anthony was very informative and energetic. We learned all about where pizza came from and each stop taught us something new and allowed us to try pizza from a different region. You will leave full and educated! They also worked great with a food allergy which was much appreciated and didn’t detract from the experience at all.  —Sheila S. Boston, MA

My husband and I just returned from our San Diego vacation and made sure after check out to attend Anthony’s Little Italy Saturday morning tour! Our instincts told us it would be a not miss and great decision to end our vacation this way, before leaving to head home. We were correct. Yesterday’s tour was fantastic! Anthony was an overall wonderful guide and individual. Both being Italian ourselves, his warmth and dynamic personality immediately felt familiar. Beyond his warm welcome at the cafe where he busied himself to make sure to serve all with a breakfast before heading out, he was an informative guide to the history and life of this cultural neighborhood that has gained recognition and recently voted as the nation’s current best Little Italy! His dynamic personalty along with archival photos kept the tour engaging with interest for all for the entire length of the tour. Also, Anthony was very in tune with our group, checking in with us from time to time, to make sure all were comfortable and if any necessary bathroom and water breaks were needed. Besides the history and details, he provided additional information for additional options to enjoy a full day of an overall wonderful Little Italy experience, at the tour’s end. A wonderful option to take this tour, as well as enjoy the Farmer’s Market afterwards, as well as authentic Italian dining. Being of Italian descent ourselves, and just moving to Scottsdale AZ from NYC, it has been a while since my husband and I had tasted wonderful Italian cuisine as well as being immersed in an environment that felt like home. This gem of a neighborhood provided that and then some. Anthony’s tour was so beneficial as an introduction this wonderful cultural neighborhood. Having experienced a handful of Little Italy neighborhoods in the U.S., including New York’s classic as well as its gem, Arthur Avenue, San Diego’s Little Italy was truly at the top of our list. Anthony’s tour very much contributed to our appreciation of this neighborhood with a desire to only return and spend more time here.. Beyond Anthony’s being such a wonderful guide and ambassador to a neighborhood he is proud to call home, Anthony himself is a caring beautiful spirit who makes those on his tour feel like family!. We intend to return and take additional tours with Anthony with the added bonus of feeling like we have made a new friend! —ricmat46

Each Italian restaurant had their own original family pizza recipes from various regions of Italy. Our wonderful tour guide Marianna knew all of the history from the owners from Sicily, Milan and Naples. Each pizza had their unique flavor from the various regions, cheese and sauces , Oh mama mia. So much food!! Learned that tomatoes were not originally on pizzas.. Traditionally a pizza should have 3 ingredients 1 meat & two vegetables. Now we all know where to eat next time we are in the San Diego area. It was a very special treat as my husband loves loves pizza. Some of the chefs came to our table and introduced them selves. Would go on Little Italy Tour again next time we are in San Diego. Thank you Anthony and Marianna for giving us this special tour!! —nyctraveler041

What a treat! I met Anthony while doing a Little Italy Historical tour last year. It was fantastic and wanted to do it again. Emailed Anthony and he told me of another fun idea as we were celebrating a friends 60th birthday. He suggested we do a cooking tour/class as their were 5 of us. We all had a fantastic time. Mother and daughter (Anna and Adriana) showed us Sicilian hospitality. We learned how to prepare a 5 course lunch in which we of course had partaken in the eating of our delicious experience. We had lot’s of laughs, stories and even better good wine all from Italy. We would all do this again. Thank you Anthony for suggesting such a fun afternoon. —Jim and Barb from Michigan

Last year my husband and I took this tour with a group from our church and thought Anthony was so amazing that we were transported back in time actually experiencing the time, culture, sights, sounds, taste and everything Little Italy was and is. We had such a wonderful time we decided to go back last Saturday with a group of friends, to experience what we so enjoyed. We wanted our friends to have a great time…but I didn’t think it would be as special for my husband and me the 2nd time around, boy was I wrong! The experience was everything and more than we promised our friends. They’re still talking about how awesome everything was! So, I really ought to give Anthony a 10 Star rating! **********!  —boopster19

Buon Giorno:

It has been one week since we enjoyed a lovely Saturday together with Anthony, Adrianna, and the Del’Homme family and extended families.  I am recalling with delight how absolutely wonderful that day was.  GRAZIE! Thank you Joshua and Anthony for planning such a perfect get together.  From the coaster ride to and from Downtown and everything in between, it was picture perfect.

Anthony, I do not know if you realize what an amazing service you are providing for all who partake.  Your job is way more than a job.  It is a service.  A service to all visitors, a service to Little Italy, a service to all Little Italy’s businesses, a service to the community, and a service to San Diego at large.  You are the perfect representative of the Italian culture and the Italian community.  You are professional and yet so warm and welcoming.  We feel like part of your family.  Your generous, giving, and happy spirit makes for such a relaxing and enjoyable day.  The food and fun and family atmosphere was amazing.  Keep doing what you do.  You do it with such graciousness and panache.

Perfecto!  With great appreciation Jo Del’Homme

It was the best day I have had in many months.  I enjoy my time in Little Italy each and every time.  The Little Italy tour is more like a mini vacation (a Stay-cation). —Jo D.

We had a group of 42 people that had a WONDERFUL morning with Anthony and Marianna touring Little Italy in San Diego.  We learned so much about the Italian influence on this wonderful region of beautiful San Diego.  Our lunch was delicious and the Gelato as our desert, at a different restaurant, really topped off our time together.  Anthony was so energetic  and deserves an “Oscar” for making our tour so fun and informative.  I recommend this tour to anyone that is visiting San Diego for the first time or even if you have visited Little Italy many times..there are wonderful stories that Anthony will tell you, that you just did not know!   —Jan L. Oceanside, CA
