“We adored our Little Italy Tours cooking experience. Our Italian chef was beyond fantastic!!! Food was amazing. Kids became more enthralled as time grew. My parents enjoyed it immensely. I have pure love for your chef’s passion for food and how to make it so family-friendly. Well worth it.” —L.Merriam, Aspen Valley, CO

“It was my first food tour, but not my last! All the others in the group — including my daughter who’s been on many food tours — gave it an A+. I certainly agreed! Our guide was awesome: a real charmer, high energy and a neighborhood enthusiast… sharing with us the rich history of San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood. The food tour was more than just ‘here, try this dish.’ He schooled us on the rich history of the area, and gave us intricate details on each food dish we sampled. We had lots of laughs swapping our varying cultural experiences at mealtime. I don’t know which was more fun — eating the food, drinking the wine, or talking about it. My favorite was the common practice of a dipping sauce or using the bread to slurp up the rich sauces in most pasta dishes. Yummy! Made a fan of homemade bread out of me. Each of 5 restaurants transported us right out of San Diego to Italian chow down fun. I won’t spoil the food surprises for you except to say the hardy serving of burrata was to die for, with an unbelievable tale about its value. The guide will fill you in. One dish was the best pasta dish I’ve had in my life. We ended at the patio of a quaint bakery/restaurant offering a wonderful desert selection–from extravagant pastries to simple flourless chocolate cake. Look forward to a great time, great food, and getting your money’s worth. Win, win. Ciao!” —Lola P. Skokie, IL

“Today my husband and I treated ourselves to a Little Italy Tour.  We met our esteemed guide at Cafe Zucchero  in the morning for espresso and a fabulous Iris — a humongous, Sicilian deep-fried donut. We proceeded to walk about and learn more and more interesting and intriguing facts about everything from the first settlers in Little Italy, Prohibition, and of course The Mob. The guide tells everything in story form, which keeps you riveted to his every word.  He really knows this town — all the people  called out to him in Italian!  Run, don’t walk, and sign up for this tour to get an overall cultural experience of this fantastic, vibrant area.  We finished with a trip to the Saturday Farmers Market. We are going back soon for one of their cooking classes in an Italian home. Ciao!” —Lori M. Solana Beach, CA

“I did a Little Italy Tour and Sicilian cooking class for my friend’s Bachelorette Party.  We had a blast!  Our guide was so great, showing us the way through Little Italy and connecting us with our cook Adriana.  The chef took us to an Italian grocery store and the farmers market, where we purchased some of our ingredients for our cooking class later in the day.  Between the two of them, we felt that we got a great overall view of Little Italy, one of the cutest parts of San Diego!  We then went to Adriana’s mothers home where we had our Sicilian cooking class.  Anna (Adriana’s mother) was amazing and welcomed us with such love that. We immediately felt part of the family.  We spent the afternoon cooking a five-course authentic Sicilian meal all while talking, telling stories and of course drinking some wine.  It was a perfect afternoon spent with family and celebrating the bride to be!  After we finished our meal, we ended up not wanting to leave Anna’s house! We eventually left with all of the delicious recipes, so we can make them again.  Cannot wait to go back and visit … they are the BEST!  #BestBreadCrumbToaster.”  —Lauren C. Los Angeles, CA

“My work department did this tour as part of our holiday celebrations and had a great time! Our tour guide was very informative and energetic. We learned all about where pizza came from and each stop taught us something new and allowed us to try pizza from a different region. You will leave full and educated! They also worked great with a food allergy which was much appreciated and didn’t detract from the experience at all.”  —Sheila S. Boston, MA

“Our family of 6 participated in a walking tour from Little Italy Tours. From the welcome cappuccino and monster Sicilian pastry to all the little facts and hidden treasures, this was one great tour. We live in San Diego and eat in the Little Italy area many times a year, but never knew these things existed! Great educational and entertaining tour.” —Leslie G.

“My husband and I just returned from our San Diego vacation. Our instincts told the Little Italy Tour would be a not-to-miss experience. What a great way to end our vacation! We were correct. Yesterday’s tour was fantastic! Our guide was wonderful. Being Italian ourselves, our guide’s warmth and dynamic personality immediately felt familiar. Beyond his warm welcome at the cafe, where he busied himself to make sure to serve all with a breakfast before heading out, he was insightful about the life and culture of this neighborhood. Little Italy  has gained recognition and was recently voted as the nation’s current best Little Italy! His dynamic personalty along with archival photos kept the tour engaging with interest for all for the entire length. Also, he was very in tune with our group, checking in with us from time to time, to make sure all were comfortable and if any necessary bathroom and water breaks were needed.

Being of Italian descent ourselves, and just moving to Scottsdale AZ from NYC, it has been a while since my husband and I had tasted wonderful Italian cuisine as well as being immersed in an environment that felt like home. This gem of a neighborhood provided that and then some! This tour was so beneficial as an introduction this wonderful cultural neighborhood. Having experienced a handful of Little Italy neighborhoods in the U.S., including New York’s classic as well as its gem, Arthur Avenue, San Diego’s Little Italy was truly at the top of our list. This tour very much contributed to our appreciation of this neighborhood with a desire to only return and spend more time here. Beyond him being such a wonderful guide and ambassador to a neighborhood he is proud to call home, our guide was a caring beautiful spirit who makes those on his tour feel like family! We intend to return and take additional tours with Little Italy Tours with the added bonus of feeling like we have made new friends!” —ricmat46

“Each Italian restaurant had their own original family pizza recipes from various regions of Italy. Our wonderful tour guide Marianna knew all of the history from the owners from Sicily, Milan and Naples. Each pizza had their unique flavor from the various regions, cheese and sauces , Oh mamma mia. So much food!! Learned that tomatoes were not originally on pizzas. Traditionally a pizza should have 3 ingredients 1 meat & two vegetables. Now we all know where to eat next time we are in the San Diego area. It was a very special treat as my husband loves loves pizza. Some of the chefs came to our table and introduced them selves. Would go on Little Italy Tour again next time we are in San Diego. Thank you for giving us this special tour!!!” —nyctraveler041

“What a treat! I took a delicious Little Italy Tour  last year. This year, I wanted to do it again. I emailed our guide and he suggested we do a cooking tour/class to celebrate our friend’s birthday. There were 5 of us. We all had a fantastic time. Mother and daughter (Anna and Adriana) showed us such Sicilian hospitality. We learned how to prepare a 5-course lunch — in which we, of course, partook in the eating of our delicious handiwork. We had lot’s of laughs, stories and good wine all from Italy. We would all do this again in a heartbeat. Thank you for suggesting such a fun afternoon.” —Jim and Barb from Michigan

“Last year my husband and I took this tour with a group from our church and thought it was so amazing that we were transported back in time actually experiencing the time, culture, sights, sounds, taste and everything Little Italy was and is. We had such a wonderful time we decided to go back last Saturday with a group of friends, to experience what we so enjoyed. We wanted our friends to have a great time…but I didn’t think it would be as special for my husband and me the 2nd time around. Boy, was I wrong! The experience was everything and more than we promised our friends. They’re still talking about how awesome everything was! So, I really ought to give Little Italy Tours a 10 Star rating! **********!”  —boopster19

“Buon Giorno:

It has been one week since we enjoyed a lovely Saturday together with Little Italy Tours and the Del’Homme family and extended families.  I am recalling with delight how absolutely wonderful that day was.  GRAZIE! Thank you for planning such a perfect get-together.  From the coaster ride to and from Downtown and everything in between, it was picture perfect.

I do not know if you realize what an amazing service you are providing for all who partake.  Your job is way more than a job.  It is a service.  A service to all visitors, a service to Little Italy, a service to all Little Italy’s businesses, a service to the community, and a service to San Diego at large.  You are the perfect representative of the Italian culture and the Italian community, Little Italy Tours.  You are professional and yet so warm and welcoming.  We feel like part of your family.  Your generous, giving, and happy spirit makes for such a relaxing and enjoyable day.  The food and fun and family atmosphere was amazing.  Keep doing what you do.  You do it with such graciousness and panache.

Perfetto!

It was the best day I have had in many months.  I enjoy my time in Little Italy each and every time.  The Little Italy tour is more like a mini vacation (a Stay-cation).” —Jo D.

“We had a group of 42 people that had a WONDERFUL morning touring Little Italy in San Diego.  We learned so much about the Italian influence on this wonderful region of beautiful San Diego.  Our lunch was delicious and the gelato as our desert, eaten at a different restaurant, really topped off our time together.  Our guide was so energetic and deserves an ‘Oscar’ for making our tour so fun and informative.  I recommend this tour to anyone that is visiting San Diego for the first time or even if you have visited Little Italy many times..there are wonderful stories that they will tell you, that you just did not know!”   —Jan L. Oceanside, CA
